Metal Shops & Garages Built in Greater Houston

A steel shop or garage gives you a clear-span building with no posts in the way, roll-up doors sized to your trucks and equipment, and a frame engineered for Houston’s wind loads. We build them from 30x40 garages to 50x100 shops, turnkey or erection-only.

Who it’s for

Who is a steel shop or garage right for?

  • Homeowners who need real space

A detached garage for two trucks, a workshop with a bench and a lift, or both under one roof, built to match the house where your HOA asks for it.

  • Acreage owners

A big shop is usually the first building on new land: equipment, a tractor, a boat and a place to work while the house is planned.

  • Trades and small businesses

Contractors, mechanics and fabricators who want a shop bay with an office, restroom and drive-through doors.

  • Car and hobby collectors

Insulated, climate-ready shops with tall doors, a lift-height eave and room for a mezzanine.

Common sizes

What size shop or garage do I need?

Sizes are examples, not inventory. Every building is engineered to your exact width, length and eave height.
  • 30 × 40

    1,200 sq ft

Two-car garage with a workbench wall

  • 40 × 60

    2,400 sq ft

Our signature shop: trucks, a boat and a full work area

  • 50 × 80

    4,000 sq ft

Equipment shop with a bay for a camper or tractor

  • 50 × 100

    5,000 sq ft

Business shop with office, restroom and multiple bays

Popular options

What options can I add?

  • Roll-up doors

Sized to what you park. A 12x12 or 12x14 door handles most trucks and trailers. Insulated sectional doors are available.

  • Walk doors

3070 steel walk doors with lever locks, plus panic hardware for commercial shops.

  • Windows

Insulated windows placed for daylight over the bench, or to match the house.

  • Insulation

Faced fiberglass blanket or a spray-foam upgrade to fight condensation in Houston humidity.

  • Wainscot

A contrasting lower wall band in a second color, or masonry, so the shop looks finished.

  • Lean-tos

Covered side bays for a trailer, firewood or an outdoor work area, designed into the main frame.

  • Porches & overhangs

Gable or eave extensions for shade at the doors and a cleaner roofline.

  • Eave height

14–16 ft eaves fit a car lift or a camper door. 12 ft is fine for a standard garage.

Pricing

What affects the cost of a shop or garage?

Footprint and eave height
Square footage drives steel weight. Raising the eave 2 ft adds wall panel and column steel.
Doors
Large roll-up and insulated doors are among the biggest line items. Each one also adds framed openings.
Insulation
Moisture control is worth it in Houston, but spray foam costs much more than blanket insulation.
Foundation
Slab thickness, perimeter beams and any pad build-up depend on soil and site.
Site prep
Clearing, fill and a level pad can be a large share of a rural build.
Finish-out
Electrical, lighting, plumbing, an office or a mezzanine are priced separately from the shell.

Why build a shop in steel instead of wood?

A pre-engineered steel building gives you a clear span with no interior posts, so you can open every door and swing a truck around inside. The frame does not rot, warp or attract termites, which all matter in the Gulf Coast humidity.

Because the building is engineered for your exact size and site, it comes with stamped drawings that show the wind and roof loads. That is what your permit office and insurer want to see. Read more in the metal building cost guide.

Turnkey shop or erection only?

If you already bought a kit, we can erect it with our own crew. If you are starting from an idea, our turnkey design-build service covers design, engineered drawings, the slab, the steel and the trades, with one point of contact from quote to handoff.

FAQ

Garages & Shops questions

What size metal shop should I build?

Measure what you will park and add working room. Most people who start with a 30x40 wish they had built bigger, which is why a 40x60 with 14–16 ft eaves is our most requested shop. It fits two vehicles, a boat or trailer, and a full bench area.

How much does a 40x60 metal shop cost in Houston?

It depends on height, doors, insulation, foundation and site work. Our cost guide shows sample price-per-square-foot ranges for kit-only, erected and turnkey builds. We give you a written quote after a free site visit.

How tall should my shop be for a car lift?

A 14 ft eave is a common minimum for a two-post lift with headroom. Go to 16 ft if you also want a tall roll-up door for a camper or box truck.

Can a steel shop look like it belongs next to my house?

Yes. Wainscot, matching trim and roof colors, porches and window placement make a big difference, and many HOAs approve steel buildings that coordinate with the home.

Do I need a permit for a shop?

Usually, yes, from your city or county depending on where you build. We confirm the right office for your address and provide the engineered drawings. See our guide on metal building permits in Harris, Fort Bend and Montgomery counties.
