Cost & pricing
How much does a metal building cost in Houston?
It depends on size, height, doors, insulation, foundation and site work, and on whether you buy a kit, kit + erection, or turnkey. Our metal building cost guide explains each cost driver and shows sample price-per-square-foot ranges.
What is the difference between kit, erected and turnkey pricing?
A kit price covers the steel package delivered to your site. Erected pricing adds the labor and equipment to put it up. Turnkey adds the foundation, site work, doors, insulation, permits and coordination of trades. Compare them in the cost guide.
Why do online kit prices look so low?
Online prices are usually for a basic kit with minimal doors and no foundation, delivery, erection, insulation or permits, and sometimes not engineered for Houston wind loads. Compare complete scopes, not headline prices.
Do you offer financing?
We can point you to third-party financing options on approved credit. Ask during your quote.
Permits & foundations
Do I need a permit for a metal building in the Houston area?
Most projects need some form of permit from a city or county, and rules vary by jurisdiction and floodplain status. Read our permit guide for Harris, Fort Bend and Montgomery counties, then confirm with your local office.
Who pulls the permit?
On turnkey projects we prepare and submit the package with or for you. On erection-only projects we provide what you need from the manufacturer’s drawings.
What kind of foundation does a metal building need?
Usually an engineered concrete slab with thickened perimeter beams and anchor bolts set to the manufacturer’s plan. Some open covers and barns can use engineered piers. See foundations & site prep.
Timeline
How long does it take to build a metal building?
Erection is the fast part, often days to a few weeks. Engineering, manufacturing lead times, permits and the slab usually set the overall schedule. You get a written timeline with your quote.
What usually causes delays?
Permit review, manufacturing lead times, wet weather during site work and changes after the order is placed. Finalizing doors and options before ordering avoids most of it.
How soon can you come out to measure?
Usually within a week of your call. Quote requests are answered within one business day.
Design & options
What is the most popular size?
A 40x60 shop with 14–16 ft eaves. It’s big enough for vehicles, a boat or camper and a full work area. See garages & shops.
Can a metal building look like a house?
Yes. Roof pitch, wainscot, porches, trim colors and window placement make steel buildings look residential, which is how many barndominiums are designed.
What insulation do you recommend in Houston?
At minimum, faced blanket insulation with a good vapor retarder to control condensation. Spray foam is the upgrade for conditioned space like barndos and offices.
Maintenance
How long do metal buildings last?
With a proper foundation and basic maintenance, a steel building can last for decades. Panel coatings are usually warrantied by the manufacturer for many years. Ask for the warranty terms on your specific panels.
What maintenance does a metal building need?
Once a year, check fasteners, sealant at the ridge and trim, gutters and door operation. Keep soil and vegetation off the base trim and wash off corrosive buildup.
Repairs & add-ons
Can you repair or add on to my existing metal building?
Yes, including buildings we didn’t build. We re-sheet, repair frames and purlins, fix storm damage, cut in doors, and add bays and lean-tos. See repairs & extensions.
Can you extend my building’s length?
Usually, by adding bays at an endwall with new frames matched to the existing ones. See extensions and lean-tos.
Do you help with storm-damage insurance claims?
We assess and document the damage, scope the repair and work with your adjuster. The claim decision is your insurer’s.
